NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

AND REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR THE USE OF CARES ACT CDBG FUNDS

BOROUGH OF TAMAQUA

 

Notice is hereby given that Schuylkill County on behalf of Borough of Tamaqua will hold a virtual public hearing on June 16, 2020 at 6:30 P.M. through the Zoom video conference system.  The public can participate in the council meeting using a computer, tablet or smart phone with an internet connection at the following link:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87420903205 and by entering Meeting ID: 874 2090 3205.  Individuals who do not have internet access can participate by telephone by dialing 1-929-436-2866 and entering Meeting ID: 874 2090 3205#.

The purpose of the hearing is to discuss the use of CARES Act Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to prevent the spread of COVID-19, prepare for and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Borough of Tamaqua expects to receive an allocation of approximately $68,463 from the CARES Act in CDBG CV funds from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  At least 70% of the funds must be used to benefit low- and moderate-income persons.  The application is due July 28, 2020.   

 

Eligible CDBG projects that address the pandemic will be considered.  Such activities may include public services, economic development, retrofitting a facility to isolate persons who are COVID positive and other proactive measures outlined in a HUD memo that is available on the county website: www.co.schuylkill.pa.us  

 

All interested parties are invited to attend the public hearing and give oral testimony or present written comments concerning the use of the funds.  Comments may be submitted to the Schuylkill County Administrator, Court House, 401 N. 2nd St., Pottsville, PA 17901 or gbender@co.schuylkill.pa.us by July 22, 2020.
